Stephen Ministry is a lay caregiving ministry which offers a proven and effective way to provide high-quality, one-to-one, Christ-centered care to those experiencing life difficulties. The confidential relationship between the caregiver (called Stephen Ministers) and the care receiver is conducted by weekly visits and may continue for only a short time or may go on for years.
Stephen Ministry’s curriculum provides 50 hours of formal, structured training. Curriculum materials draw from the wisdom of Pastoral Counselors, Theologians, Psychologists, and Sacred Scripture. The training covers such issues as assertiveness and honesty, active listening, healthy boundaries, confidentiality, and distinctively Christian caring during specific types of crises.
Reasons for requesting a Stephen Minister’s visits may range from grieving the loss of a loved one, experiencing a major medical crisis, facing a long-term illness, disability, divorce, job loss, or being faced with a move to assisted living or long-term care.
Current Stephen Ministers are: Marilyn Adderley, Bob Axsiom, George Agricola, Nancy Anthony, Larry Bauman, Rene Brosnan, Paul Calabro, Tom Hurban, Joanne Hurley, Trish Lauffer, Tom Marko, Janine Marrone (Stephen Leader), Sam Sciarrotta, and Jayne Stark.
